Distinguished Professor of Chemistry Sanford Asher has won the Charles E. Kaufman Foundation 2011 Award based on his fundamental research in Chemistry that has advanced the field of knowledge in chemistry and benefited humankind through technologies of economic value and significance for improving human welfare, health and security. The work involved the development of sophisticated laser based methods for determining the mechanisms of protein folding and for developing standoff detection of hazardous chemicals, and for the development of smart photonic crystal chemical sensing materials. Professor Asher will be presented with this $50,000 award in December.
