Prof. Hutchison received one of three seed grants from the University of Pittsburgh Center for Energy, for his research on "Rational Computationally-Driven Design of Highly Efficient Organic Solar Materials." This project seeks to efficiently use computational chemistry methods to filter through millions of possible solar cell materials. Candidate molecules are "screened" for electronic and optical properties, ease of synthesis, solubility, electrical conductivity, etc. enabling experimentalists to focus on the most promising structures.
