The Department of Pediatrics in the School of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh has a lab technician position available at Childrens Hospital in Lawrenceville.

 Job Description:

This position entails the analysis of clinical research samples for the various analytes, including insulin, c-peptide, adiponectin, leptin and others.  They are analyzed using commercially available kits; radioimmunioassays and ELISAs.  Samples are also run for stable isotope concentration on a GC/MS.

Additionally the position involves the processing of research subject samples and analysis of glucose during in-patient visits.

The ideal candidate must be organized and able to work independently as well as able to troubleshoot assays and instrumentation.  Experience with GC/MS, RIA and ELISA are necessary.  Good communication skills are needed.  A mastery of Microsoft Excel is also necessary.  Experience with clinical research is a plus with a minimum of 3 years or more laboratory experience.  A minimum of a BS degree in chemistry (preferred) or biology is required for the position.  

Although there is no tissue or cell culture or animal work, the work involves working with human serum and plasma as well as radioactivity (125I).
